Liberty must be defended with Force

"I would rather be exposed to the inconveniences of too much liberty than to those attending too small a degree of it."

Thomas Jefferson (1791)

These are the words of the man who built our country's first University of higher education in the University of Virginia. He built it and insisted that it be a publicly funded (FREE!) university. He understood that liberty is maximized when a society recognized the inalienable rights of all its citizens.

When you, my detractors, tell me I'm the type to steal your liberty recognize I got some big guns behind me that understood more then any of us could the nuances of liberty. I'm no Jefferson but like he I'm as interested in maximizing liberty contrary to what you all claim. It's a cheap shot when you claim force is being used to steal your liberty when in fact it is being used to spread liberty. Yes force for liberty! There is NO other way. I'm a pragmatist and a reductionist and THAT is what I suspect you all dislike of my post. You don't get to tell us about your beautiful ideology with out telling me how it plays out in the real world as Karl Marx so aptly described. Yes Karl Marx descriptions are potent regardless of his failures at solutions. You don't just get to tell us about "YOUR" money you "earned" with out defining what you mean by money. (Aristotle wrote that “Money exists not by nature but by law.”). Money itself IS law . It is "force". Behind that money you think you made all by yourself is a social contract that includes things like publicly funded institutions of higher learning.

The forefathers absolutely fretted and agonized about great concentrations of wealth and power and their implications for liberty. You guys make every excuse to ignore the conflict of the two. I am the revolutionary ( the ones they referred to as terrorist back then) you guys are the Tory's. You're complacent with power because you have a bit no matter how the masses see their liberties slipping away.

"Liberty is the proper end and object of authority, and cannot subsist without it; and it is liberty to that which is good, just, and honest."

John Winthrop (1588-1649)

Yes liberty requires authority and "force" and thats the nuance you consistently overlook with your pure and simple theory.

"The preservation of the sacred fire of liberty and the destiny of the republican model of government are justly considered…staked on the experiment entrusted to the hands of the American people."

George Washington (1732-1799)

"THE PEOPLE!!!" me

"Guard with jealous attention the public liberty. Suspect everyone who approaches that jewel. Unfortunately, nothing will preserve it but downright force. Whenever you give up that force, you are ruined. "

Patrick Henry (1736-1739)

Public liberty????

Liberty requires the force of the people. That's all I'm saying. If you can find evil in that it's only a lack of pragmatism and a shortage of nuance.

Beautifully shallow prose by Mr Will

Willful ignorance!

Mr. Will does exactly what he claims Barak Obama of doing. Writing deeply profound sounding prose that is empty if not ignorant in content. Suggesting 8 years from now the world will be pretty much the same is a stunningly blinded statement. But I suspect he is mostly talking about for himself.

Wow! Talk about a stunning lack of content or disregard for stubborn facts.

8 years from now there will be 500,000,000 more people in the world. In addition to the 6.7 billion already here the policies made over the  next year will likely determine the fate of at least a small per centage. If its 1% maybe as many as 72 million peoples lives will be dramatically affected. If 5% 360 million. We are talking about people already living on the edge at home and around the world.  Will there be enough energy to run our world. How about water and food?

Life WILL likely be fairly similar to a news commentator with a good income and a blind eye but for millions around the world they walk a knifes edge between survival and death. And they, the rest of the world, are confident that the best hope for the leader of the free world is Barak Hussein Obama!!!

Mr Will has written prose to compete with the likes of Obama's oratory abilities but it is Mr. Will who has content and beauty that is shallow. Please no diving!!!

A New Born Baby

Imagine you are the next baby  to be born. Imagine God gave you a choice of which country you would be born  into? ( assume you had to choose a country of at least 1 million people).  Once you choose the country the family you are born into would be completly random. Which country would you choose?

Response to O'Rielly's Crying about his taxes

This country owes almost $10 trillion dollars Mr. O'Reilly. Almost all of that was from Republican administrations who sent the debt skyrocketing. The reason the wealthy pay so much is because they make so much. If the rules didn't favor greater accumulations of wealth amongst the already wealthy and we had a more shared prosperity the economy would be MUCH better and YOU would not be paying so much on your taxes. The wealth redistribution occurs upwards from the workers to the wealthy in pre-tax dollars. You want to make it a simpleminded idea by telling us how much the top 1% pays in taxes. Find me ONE working American who wouldn't love to pay another $1,000 dollars in taxes if that meant is income was increased $5,000 dollars. Right now to pay off the Republican debt it would take each family of 4 to pay the government about $125,000 dollars. NOW DO YOU UNDERSTAND THE PROBLEM? Is your proposal to have this tax debt paid off proportionately? Or is your proposal to stop electing cut and spend gutless republicans? This is the deal right now for all you little babies born into this great country. Because you were born into this great country by no doing of your own and because we don't do Kings and Queens here, you already have a debt to society. If you are one of the lucky ones who works hard and make a fortune be prepared to pay back disproportionately to the society that gave you this opportunity. Because no matter what you think YOU DID NOT BECOME WEALTHY ON YOUR OWN. You did it on the shoulders of giants who fought the wars and paved the roads before you. You GOT THAT you Cry Baby? If you don't like those rules take your silly little baby butt, as soon as it is capable of walking, OUT OF HERE to the country of your choosing.

OF, BY and FOR THE PEOPLE

My bio is reproduced here to start off my blog. I am really interested in serious spirited debate. If you want to debate with me you'll have to be prepared to get  to the nitty gritty and defend your positions with reason and facts NOT personal attacks.

As a former Reagan voter I now consider the Republican party to be morally, intellectually and pragmatically illegitimate. They, by their actions, are simply the party of the wealthy elite. Given unrestrained power they would concentrate power and wealth amongst fewer and fewer individuals until are country looks like the colonies prior to the revolution. The two party system is horrible as it pits citizens against citizens to the benefit of the party politicians, the party's bureaucracies and mostly to the benefit of people wealthy enough to be donors. We have become a country OF, FOR, and BY the Multinational corporations not  OFF, BY and FOR the people. Reagan told us government was evil... but government always must be there and government OF, BY and FOR the people IS NOT EVIL!
